Tomorrow's $200,000 VRC-CRV Winter Championship Series Final should give us a little taste of things to come in the fast-approaching Melbourne spring carnival.

The race features a number of promising gallopers who, with natural improvement, wouldn't be out of place in some of the rich spring features. With sufficient early speed from the likes of Woodwin, Tictacs, De Mars and even Sand Sweeper, pre-post favourite Davcon should be storming home and will take some beating.

Tomorrow's charity bet

The Queensland winter carnival is winding down for another year but there's still a few highlights on the calendar.

Next Saturday, history will be made when the brand new Toowoomba cushion track hosts the $150,000 Weetwood Handicap and $100,000 Toowoomba Cup.

Then on Saturday 18 July the carnival officially draws to a close with the running of the $75,000 Tattersall's Mile at Eagle Farm.
