It's never easy to find the winner of the $1 million Stradbroke (Race 5) and this year's edition is no exception. Black Piranha certainly deserves to be favourite after his slashing second to Apache Cat in the Doomben 10,000. Ortensia looked the winner on a dry track but is hard to have on the heavy. Looking for a bit of value, we think last year's winner Mr Baritone and Royal Discretion have good winning chances at double-figure odds:

Tomorrow's charity bet
Each week the Smartbet Club places a free $50 bet for charity on its best bet of the day around Australia. We're now punting for a new cause, details of which will appear in the Friday Alert shortly.
Ortensia ($2.25 top fluc) broke a lengthy drought for us last week, adding $62.50 to our charity bank balance ($312.50). Shoot Out (Eagle Farm Race 4) is our best bet of the day tomorrow.

Come Monday the Stradbroke will have come and gone for another year but there's still some great winter carnival race meetings throughout June.
Next Saturday is $200,000 Ipswich Cup day along with the $175,000 Eye Liner Stakes.
We return to Eagle Farm on Saturday 20 June for the final Group 1 of the carnival: the $500,000 Winter Stakes for fillies and mares.
Then on Saturday 27 June the Sunshine Coast hosts its annual feature race day including the $200,000 Caloundra City Cup and $175,000 Glasshouse Handicap.
